29 Sep 2009Unclaimed money in old payroll checks, insurance policies, and more are in the hands of the government according to NAUPA. Search online for FREE to see if you or someone you know has missing money. It’s not a difficult process, and it’s cost-free to do a simple search. Here’s how!
Get a pencil, and begin writing in three columns. First, write all variations of your legal name. If you are a woman, list your married name and sur name. List each place you have resided in the next column. If you have deceased family members, list their names in the last column.
If you visit www.missingmoney.com, a site endorsed by the NAUPA, you can search for unclaimed funds for free. The system is updated every month, and all you have to do to get started is click on a state. Wouldn’t it be a pleasant surprise if you had money waiting?
After you’ve written your lists, put them in a claim folder, along with the claim number. After you find money that is yours, read the online instructions, and follow them, to begin claiming your money.
Many times, the government will still issue a check to you, if can prove you are the rightful owner. Sometimes you may not be able to provide the necessary paperwork, so don’t worry. You may have to give a copy of your driver’s license, or state id.
While you’re waiting to get approved, make copies of your claim form, and put it in a file. You should get your check in a few months.
The law requires that various companies make an effort to locate the owner of unclaimed money, and when unable to do so, these entities are required to report these missing funds to the appropriate state agencies. The state holds the money, until you or one of your heirs claims it. Hope you find money!
