15 Oct 2009There are millions of dollars in government grants allotted each year for minority groups such as African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Asians, women, and most other minority groups living in the United States. These government grants for minorities are given out for almost anything that will benefit the minority population in the US. Do you qualify?
It is amazing how much of these government grants for minorities go unclaimed each year because people simply do not know that they exist. These grants are available for a myriad of needs. The best thing about these grants is that, unlike with loans, they never have to be repaid. As long as you qualify for the grant, you can literally receive free money and other incentives from the government for being a minority.
Most government grants for minorities — also called government grants for women and minorities — are meant to decrease the high costs of a college education. Chief among these, though by no means the only ones, are the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students program, Association for Asian Studies, Indian Adult Education Fund and the Harry Truman Scholarship.
There are several websites, such as www.topgovernmentgrants.com available to help you discover which government grants for minorities you might qualify for. Grants.gov is the official site for grants regulated by the federal government. It should be able to help you find all the information you need on how to apply, what grants are available, as well as the applications necessary for applying for grants. These applications can be, in many cases, downloaded to your computer and printed out.
But there’s more than just college grants out there. Many of the government grants for minorities and the government grants for women and minorities are there to help with low income housing, bills, taxes, and even health care costs.
Some of these government grants for minorities are very hard to get however, so you should apply as soon as you find a grant that you may be eligible for. Sometimes the deadlines for applying for one of these grants can be tight, so it is important to start your application as soon as possible so that you do not miss the deadline for turning your application in.
Remember to take the time to fill your application out correctly and completely. Oftentimes an incomplete or partial application will simply be ignored, and you won’t have time to apply again before the deadline closes. You’re not the only one applying, so you want to follow the instructions carefully, cross every ‘t’, dot every ‘i’, and attach all appropriate documentation properly.
Do not assume that the grant board knows your situation because they do not. Your job is to show them why you feel your are deserving of the grant monies over someone else. They will not know this if you do not follow the directions and fill out your application correctly.
Once you have applied for one of the government grants for minorities, there’s little more to do than be patient and wait to hear if you have received the grant. Odds are you won’t be given every one you applied for, but you might be fortunate enough to get some needed help without the need of paying it back.
