3 Nov 2009Now more than ever, businesses must learn how to save money on their energy costs! The current climate has created an environment where customers are coming to the market to review their business electricity and gas costs. The success of your reduction of overhead costs for you business depends highly on what questions you ask. Are we overlooking other bills we can reduce, besides our electrical and gas bills? What are the terms of our current contracts? Are we eve qualified to do our own negotiating in these arenas?
The first important step is to go directly to your current provider and simply request a reduction in charges. It is certainly worth searching online for business energy tariffs to see who’s charging what but do not treat these as ‘gospel’ as there is a lot of variants to take into account. This is where it is important to understand exactly what you commitment is under your current agreement, how long it’s for and when it’s due for renewal.
Out of all theses points knowing when your current business electricity or business gas contract is due for renewal, is probably the most important. Why? Do everything you can to avoid having your present provider rolling your into a new contract unaware. An alarming amount of commercial energy providers will simply start you on your next contract with them and point to your permission with the payment they received!
Searching online for business electricity comparison sites could pay dividends as you will find a number of companies offering their services to manage and maintain your energy requirements. Sometimes larger companies will bill themselves as one of their subsidiaries so do not fall for that ploy. If you can avoid falling for that one, then you stand a great chance to reduce your business energy costs.
This is frequently a great way to develop leads for the larger business, but does not work so well for the client. This is done so that the smaller companies are incentivized by the potential for the commission and the larger companies defray some marketing costs.
Make sure to check the Better Business Bureau for complaints against any provider you decide to go with.
A solid commercial energy provider should also have an energetic and cooperative service department that quickly answers all of your questions and work hard for you when you need them.
