9 Oct 2009There are millions of dollars in government grants allotted each year for minority groups such as African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Asians, women, and most other minority groups living in the United States. These government grants for minorities are given out for almost anything that will benefit the minority population in the US. Do you qualify?
It is amazing how much of these government grants for minorities go unclaimed each year because people simply do not know that they exist. These grants are available for a myriad of needs. The best thing about these grants is that, unlike with loans, they never have to be repaid. As long as you qualify for the grant, you can literally receive free money and other incentives from the government for being a minority.
The majority of the government grants for minorities and government grants for women are set aside for those people seeking to gain a higher education. Many of these grants are familiar to us, such as the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students, the Association for Asian Studies, the Indian Adult Education Fund and the Harry Truman Scholarship. And these are only a few of the grants out there that are available for minorities and women.
To discover which government grants for minorities you qualify for, to go www.grants.gov, the official website of federally regulated government grants. Here, you’ll find all the information you need on how to apply for a grant, what grants you are eligible for, and even have applications you can download and print, so you can apply right away.
But there’s more than just college grants out there. Many of the government grants for minorities and the government grants for women and minorities are there to help with low income housing, bills, taxes, and even health care costs.
Unfortunately, government grants for minorities can be very hard to get. Many of them have very strict deadlines, so when you find one you qualify for, you should get that application in as soon as possible. And remember, each grant will have its own deadline, so pay attention when you start applying.
Also be sure that you are filling out your grant applications completely. Many times an incomplete application will be automatically declined and you will not get the chance to correct your errors or apply again. There can be stiff competition for some government grants for minorities, so it is imperative that you fill out the application exactly as stated in the instructions and attach the appropriate documentation as required.
Don’t forget to tell them your story! The grant board is looking to give the money to the most deserving person, and if you don’t tell them why you deserve the money more than someone else, you may not get it. Tell them what you’ll use the money for, how it will help your life, how it will help your family. If you don’t fill out the application correctly or attach the necessary documents and tell them about yourself, they won’t be able to give you the attention you deserve.
Once you have applied for one of the government grants for minorities, there’s little more to do than be patient and wait to hear if you have received the grant. Odds are you won’t be given every one you applied for, but you might be fortunate enough to get some needed help without the need of paying it back.
